I would like to thank the Committee of South Western Golden Retriever Club for inviting me to judge at their well organised show and to the exhibitors who brought their dogs under me. Devon is one of my favourite places and we were blessed with the weather. Thank you also to my two stewards, Carol and Michelle, who kept the ring running smoothly.
I was pleased that all dogs had the kind and friendly temperament we expect from our breed, however, I did find a few incorrect bites and a couple of dogs were carrying too much weight which affected their placings on the day.
MPD 1(0) 1st Todd, Mrs PT - Van Gogh Of Sunshine’s Valley With Toddrosa - 7 month lovely puppy with a soft, kind expression. Pleasing head with a correct bite, level topline, well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Happy on the move.
PD 9(2) What a lovely class of puppies! 1st Henson, Mr K - Cinderbank Move It - 11½ month pale golden with a kind eye and expression. Balanced head, correct bite, well set on neck, well laid back shoulders, level topline, hocks well let down. As one with his owner and his super movement won him this class. Was delighted to award him BPD and BP. 2nd Merrick, Miss J - Warrentor Tourmakeady At Stormerick NAF – 9 month dog with lovely dark eye and pigment. Well laid back shoulders and level topline. Beautiful cat like feet. Happy on the move.
JD 5(1) 1st Lockley, Mrs C L – Steval Whathappenedwas – This boy caught my eye when he entered the ring. Balanced and well chiselled head well set on neck with a kind eye and expression. Well laid back shoulders, level topline with coat in great condition. Feet round and cat like with well laid down hocks. Moved out with drive. 2nd 1st Henson, Mr K - Cinderbank Move It.
SYD 5(1) 1st Gulliver, Mrs S – Tonara Moon Walk – Lovely boy with the most gentle of expressions. Pleasing head with ears well set. Well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. Short coupled, level topline and super cat like feet. Moved with drive. 2nd Coad, Mrs E – Tinklersroc Bon Bon – Another lovely boy with a kind expression and coat in super condition. Well laid back shoulders, slightly longer than 1, tight cat like feet and hocks well let down. Moved out well, however, topline rolled on move.
ND 1(0) 1st Kirkup & Highman, Dr S E & Mr A P – Coldharbour Candy Cane – Lovely happy boy who enjoyed his day out. Kind head and expression with good lay back of shoulder and return of upper arm. Good bend of stifle and held his topline on the move.
GD 6(2) 1st Hurrell, Mr & Mrs A – Kadaka Kaos At Gillansgold – Super young very happy boy in gleaming coat with balanced head, beautiful dark eye and kind expression with well set ears. Well laid back shoulders, short coupled, lovely tight feet and moved well with drive. 2nd Watts, Mrs R & Mr J – Stormhayes Hop Into Spring – 3 year old boy with lovely kind expression. Good layback of shoulder, level topline, short coupled. Nice tight feet with coat in good condition. Moved well.
PGD 2(0) 1st Withey Mrs H – Rosinante Major Hero – Happy boy who was at one with his owner with a kind eye and expression. Well laid back shoulder, level topline with coat in good condition. Nice tight feet and well bent stifles. Moved around the ring with drive. 2nd Edmunds Mrs T – Sunnyoak Silver Sand – 2½ year old lovely boy. Nice dark eye. Well laid back shoulder with good length in upper arm. Level topline and well bent stifles.
LD 2(1) 1st Carter Mrs S Mst E & A& Mr J – Kadaka Kauldrun JW – Mild gold boy who filled my eye. Lovely masculine head without coarseness and a soft, kind expression. Well laid back shoulders and good length of upper arm. Level topline, well sprung ribs, short coupled. Well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moved with drive, straight and true. Was delighted to award him RBD.
OD 5(3) Three lovely examples of the breed who could change places with each other on another day. 1st Clunie Miss K – Warrentor Bold As Brass JW – A happy 2 year old whose tail never stopped wagging. Presented in gleaming coat with a kind eye and the softest of expressions. Good return of upper arm on well laid back shoulders. Short coupled, ribs well sprung, level topline, well bent stifles. Super tight cat like feet with hocks well let down. Movement was powerful with good drive. Delighted to award him BD and ROSIS. Well deserved! 2nd Bawden Miss C - Balsamina Beachcomber At Darthill JW – I’ve written in my notes ‘majestic’, when stood he looks so proud. 2 year old cream boy with lovely dark eye and soft expression. Shoulders well laid back, good return of upper arm, level topline, short coupled, hocks well let down and is well off for bone. Moved with drive around the ring.
VD/B 7(5) 1st Mace, Mrs J – Harry The Magician At Telanjan VW – 10¾ year old lovely gentleman in gleaming coat. Such a lovely head with dark eye and soft expression and good pigment. Good layback of shoulder, short coupled and nice tight cat like feet. Moved with drive around the ring. BVIS. 2nd Gayler, Mrs P D – Carolake Remember Me JW – Nice feminine bitch. Good front with well lay back of shoulder. Level topline with correct tailset. Moved well and was at one with her handler.
MPB 2(0) Both lovely puppies in this class. 1st Gayler, Mrs P D – Carolake X’Marks The Spot – Lovely feminine bitch with a pleasing head with dark eye and soft expression. Well balanced, shoulders well laid back and good return of upper arm. Moved well and presented with a wavy coat in good condition. 2nd Dean, Miss R – Gunnersgold Crunch Creams At Perrangold – Another lovely cream girl with a feminine head with dark pigment. Good front with shoulders well laid back and well bent stifles. Moved well. I believe this is the first time showing for this exhibitor and they both looked to have enjoyed it.
PB 10(1) A lovely puppy class! 1st Clunie, Miss K – Warrentor Nohkalikai – Lovely, balanced feminine girl presented in a good conditioned wavy coat. Straight front, shoulders well laid back, good return of upper arm with tight, cat like feet. Moved well. 2nd Cope, Mrs J – Lexi Luck – 10 month old feminine girl with dark eyes and soft expression. Shoulders well laid back, good return of upper arm and short coupled. Presented in good condition with wavy coat.
JB 3(0) 1st Leeming, Mrs M – Kadaka Kalypso At Iscadu – 14 month pale cream girl who was very attentive to owner. Pleasing feminine head with dark pigment. Good length of neck into well laid back shoulders. Balanced in outline with correct topline. Moved well. 2nd Chan, Mrs J & Mr R – Wemcrest Sound Of Music – 11 month old presented in a lovely mid gold coat in super condition. Nice dark eye, good pigment, well off for bone, level topline and well bent stifles. Moved well.
SYB 3(1) 1st Todd, Mrs P T – Kelbadora Dream of Dreams With Toddrosa JW – A sweet mid gold bitch. Nice tight, cat like feet. Shoulders well laid back, short coupled with well bent stifles. Correct tail set and moved really well with drive around the ring. 2nd Northey, Mrs K & Mr S Stevkarn – Stevkarn Sunny Sky – 9 months old cream bitch with nice feminine head. Well off for bone, shoulders well laid back, good return of upper arm with well bent stifles. Moved okay.
NB 4(0) 1st Winsor-Williams, Mrs P – Fleur So Sweet – 2 year old pale gold feminine bitch. Straight front, well laid back shoulders, short coupled with tight, cat like feet. Moved with drive around the ring. 2nd Brewer, Mrs S – Stradcot Poetry In Motion – 10 months old bitch with lovely dark pigment. Good straight front with well laid back shoulders, short coupled and well bent stifles. Moved well.
GB 4(1) 1st Russell-Bond & Cole, Mesdames – Rosinante Silhouette JW – Lovely bitch, who I have done well before, with a pleasing feminine head, dark eye and kind expression. Good straight front, ample length of neck which flowed into well laid back shoulders. Short coupled, correct tailset and well bent stifles. Moved with drive around the ring. 2nd Perry, Mrs M C & Mr S L – Stormhayes Spring Willow – 3 year old, light gold bitch with pleasing dark eye, Well laid back shoulders with good return of upper arm. Correct tailset. Moved well.
PG 6(2) 1st Cole, Mrs LP – Rooksbury Kalypso – 3 year old, mid gold bitch whose coat was in great condition and gleamed in the sunshine. Good straight front with well laid back shoulders and good return of upper arm. Well bent stifles and hocks well let down. Moved well once settled. 2nd Brewer, Mrs S – 6 year old bitch with the most beautiful soft expression. Lovely feminine head. Good layback of shoulders, short coupled with nice tight, cat like feet. Moved well.
LB 3(2) 1st Russell-Bond, Mrs S E – Rosinante Deju Vu – Feminine, well balanced mid gold bitch with lovely dark eye and pleasing head. Forelegs straight with good bone, shoulders well laid back, level topline, well bent stifle. Hocks well let down and tail carried level with back. A very happy show girl whose tail wagged throughout her class and another whose coat was in great condition and gleamed in the sun. Moved well when settled. Delighted to award her RBB and RBIS. 2nd Chan, Mrs J & Mr R – Lovissa Hello Dolly of Wemcrest – Darker bitch to 1, with a lovely dark eye and soft expression. Well laid back shoulders, short coupled with nice tight, cat like feet. Moved well.
OB 6(3) Two lovely girls headed this class. 1st Cole, Mrs L P – Rooksbury Phantasia JW – Pretty, feminine bitch who just oozes quality. Forelegs straight with good bone, good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Balanced, short coupled with ribs well sprung. Well muscled and well bent stifles. At one with her handler and she moved powerfully around the ring with good drive. Delighted to award her BB and BIS. 2nd Clunie, Miss K – Warrentor Caipirinha – Very close to 1. Lovely bitch with super tight, cat like feet and a super mover. Unfortunately, she is carrying too much weight at the moment but overall she presents a lovely picture.
